Missed post meeting follow-ups are each missed opportunities to strengthen your business.

In fact, following up can be considered the third part of any meeting, where planning and execution are the first two.  In episode #063 of the Meeting Leadership Podcast, we talk about why post meeting follow ups are so important.

Welcome to another episode of the meeting leadership podcast. My name is Gordon Shepard and I just want to say thank you. Thank you for taking time to be the type of professional who wants to listen to this podcast so you can get a practical tip or maybe a bit of an edge when it comes to making your next meeting way more productive and way more profitable. It is really, honestly, great to have you here.

01:03 – Do you actually follow up after a meeting?

And today’s episode? Well, it is for meeting leaders who love accountability, because today we’re going to talk about five reasons why post-meeting follow up is essential. And do me a favor and take a little moment to reflect. Do you actually follow up after a meeting consistently the way that you know you should? Do the people on your team do that? Well, if so, congratulations, and if not, here’s a few reasons why you should.

01:16 – Reason 1 – You’ll make more money

Number one, you’ll make more money, whether it’s direct or indirect. I mean, if you’re in sales, it is a no brainer. Consistent followup is proven to have a direct effect on the bottom line. But let’s say you’re not. Let’s say it’s just with your team and you actually just want to really build more rapport with everybody. If you follow up consistently and with a lot of accountability, people will just simply get more into it. They’ll want to get more done. And when they do that, you will definitely make more money.

01:46 – Reason 2 – Everyone will be happier

Gordon Shepard:     Which leads us into reason number two. When you do consistent follow up with your staff, your customers, your suppliers, your mom, your dad, and anybody else that you were supposed to follow up with in a consistent way, well, they’re just going to be happier. They’re just going to really feel like you’ve got their back.

02:03 – Reason 3 – You’ll get faster feedback

And here’s reason number three. When you follow up after a meeting, you get faster feedback. Now this can help you slow down if things are going wrong, or it can help you to capitalize quickly when things are going right.

02:16 – Reason 4 – You will deepen trust

Which gets us into the fourth reason, which is when you follow up after a meeting, you will deepen your trust level with everyone who was there and that will definitely lead to higher productivity.

02:30 – Reason 5 – You will improve speed to market for all your products and services

And finally, reason number five. You will improve your speed to market for all of your products and services when you follow up consistently after a meeting. Because think about it. If you just had a blockbuster meeting where you came up with a great new idea, the faster you follow up, the better it’s going to be for overall profitability.

02:48 – Recap of 5 reasons why you should follow up after meetings

And now, let me take a moment to recap the five reasons why post-meeting followup is essential. Number one, you’ll make more money. Number two, everyone be happier. Number three, you’ll get faster feedback. Number four, you will definitely deepen trust. And number five, you will improve speed to market for all of your products and services.
